Gastrointestinal (GI) warning signs – Certain GI symptoms often indicate a more serious structural issue or infection. These symptoms require immediate medical attention and identifying these early can be potentially life saving.

  • Blood in Stool or Vomit: This may appear as bright red blood or dark, tarry stools , which can signal bleeding in the upper or lower GI tract.
  • Unexplained Weight Loss: Losing weight without changes in diet or exercise can be a sign of malabsorption or certain cancers.
  • Difficulty Swallowing: Feeling like food is stuck in your throat or chest.
  • Severe or Sudden Abdominal Pain: Intense pain that is persistent or prevents normal activity.
