Difficulty Swallowing

Difficulty Swallowing – Sensation of food or liquid sticking, going down slowly, or not going down at all from the mouth to the stomach. It can lead to choking, aspiration (food going into the airway), weight loss so it shouldn’t be ignored. It can be a first sign of more serious conditions like Eosinophilic Esophagitis, Barrett’s esophagus and Esophageal Cancer. Anyone presenting with these complaints needs an Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), or upper endoscopy for further evaluation.
